History
Tanah Lot was originally constructed as a Hindu temple during the 9th century. However, it was later converted into a Buddhist temple by King Hayam Wuruk. In the 16th century, the Balinese king, Panembahan Senopati, ordered the construction of a new temple. He also changed the name of the temple to “Tanah Lot”.
